Organic farming in Germany has its roots in the 1920s and 30s when farmers began to adopt ecological farming practices. After various food scares in the 1990s and with Germans becoming increasingly health conscious, organic food has become mainstream, which, in turn, has led to a dynamic growth in demand for these products throughout the country. Today, Germany is the largest European market for food and beverages. Besides being the leading organic food producer, it is also one of the countries with the highest consumption of organic products worldwide.
