By the end of 2011, the use of renewable energies in Germany prevented the release of about 130 million tons of climate-damaging CO2. The share of renewable energies of the electric power consumption in Germany was 20 percent with wind, bioenergy and photovoltaics being the most dominant sources.

Bioenergy

Germany is Europe's largest consumer of bioenergies. The country is setting benchmarks especially in innovative technologies for the feed-in of biogas into the natural gas grid.

Photovoltaics

The German photovoltaic market is the largest worldwide and is expected to continue to expand rapidly in the coming years.

Solar Thermal

Germany's solar thermal market ranks 1^st in Europe. More than 40 percent of all new solar thermal systems in Europe are installed in Germany.

Wind Energy

The wind energy sector in Germany has been a global leader in the production of clean energy. Its contribution to electricity generation is the largest among all renewable energies.
