Employment in Germany, Growing Slow but Steady
Employment numbers in Germany have continued to rise but at a slower rate in May 2015. According to provisional calculations from the Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, around 42.7 million German residents were in employment in May 2015. This is an increase of +0.9 percent or 397,000 persons since December 2014. Furthermore, according to provisional results from employment accounts, the number of persons in employment grew by 0.2 percent or 89,000 above the results recorded in April 2014.
As of unemployment, the latest labor force survey results show that total unemployment is trending downward. In May 2015, there were 1.9 billion people unemployed; 100,000 less than in May 2014. In comparison with April 2015, unemployment fell by 6.9 percent or 140,000 people. After seasonal and calendar adjustment, there were 1.97 million unemployed in Germany the adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 4.7 in May 2015.
