The Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) is the umbrella organization of the 81 German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) which are the first local contact address for supporting business. It represents the interests of German entrepreneurs vis-á-vis policy makers on the federal level and in the EU in coordination with the Chambers of Industry and Commerce.
The DIHK represents the overall economic interests of a broad range of entrepreneurs. 3.6 million business enterprises are statutory members of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce. Because of compulsory IHK-membership, the DIHK is independent from individual interests - reconciling interests is a central task of the IHK organization. In numerous publications and events the DIHK offers assistance concerning all current topics of international trade and foreign markets.
Together with other partner organizations, the DIHK is the moving force in regional initiatives of the German economy and takes part in several institutions which give direct advice to enterprises in the field of foreign trade. The DIHK coordinates the network of the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad and offices of delegates and representatives of German industry and commerce (AHKs) in 80 countries. Together with the IHKs and the AHKs the DIHK operates a strong service-network in foreign trade promotion.
